Members of Coastal Command and Maritime Air Association in conjunction with their US Navy colleagues gathered at the RAF Club in London on Saturday 25th April 2015 to honour the late Squadron Leader Terrence Bulloch DSO and bar and DFC and bar.

Squadron Leader Bulloch remains ‘the most decorated anti-U-boat ace in Royal Air Force Coastal Command. He accounted for 4 U-boats destroyed, 3 damaged and many others attacked. This tally made him the highest scoring anti-submarine pilot during the Battle of the Atlantic.

In October 1940 he was awarded the DFC at the end of his tour on 206 Sqn for success in bombing Axis shipping. He then joined 120 Sqn in 1941 flying the B24 Liberator and was awarded a bar to his DFC for sinking U-597 on 12th October 1942. On 8th December 1942 he undertook a long range mission in support of Convoy HX217 (Halifax, NS to Liverpool).

On 1st December 1942 he was awarded the DSO for sinking U-132 and just 9 days later on 10th December 1942 a Bar to his DSO (announced 10th January 1943) for sinking U-254.

He finished the war with 4,568 operational flying hours to his credit and went on to fly commercially with BOAC/BA during which time he crossed the Atlantic Ocean 1113 times; at one point he held the record for the fastest trans-Atlantic flight’.

The late Squadron Leader Terrence Bulloch DSO and Bar, DFC and Bar, was nominated and has been successfully ‘inducted’ into the United States Navy Hall of Honour. Very sadly Terry died prior to the announcement of the honour, so was unable to receive it in person.

A team from the United States Navy travelled to the UK in a Boeing P8 (the aircraft was captained by an RAF Pilot, Squadron Leader Andy Bull who was responsible for nominating Squadron Leader Bulloch).

The presentation was made to Squadron Leader Bulloch’s widow, Linda who was accompanied by close members of the family.

Those present included Air Vice Marshal Andrew Roberts CB, CBE, AFC, FRAeS, RAF (Rtd),  Vice President of Coastal Command and Maritime Air Association and the Association’s Chairman Squadron Leader John Cairns FRIN, RAF Rtd and representing Air Command was Air Commodore Richard Hill RAF.
