September 2007

As we draw to the end of the season it has proved to be a mixed one for FAA members.   Some of the beats did very well further upstream but as the wet weather continued,   more and more fish were running through quickly.   Some fish did build up in pools were the river maintained a good level for a few  weeks.   Fish were caught but it was good to see a fair percentage being returned.   During the first two weeks in Sept the water was at summer levels and very few fish entered the river.   On the 17th Sept the water rose once more and fish ran thought our waters again.   One visitor caught and released a fish in the 25-30lb plus range, this fish being caught by Dave Champness and was three feet two inches long.  Other big fish were returned and a few clean fish retained.

I am sure that fish are running late this season and clean fish will continue to run well after the close date of 30th Sept.   This season with high water, did not produce big numbers of fish but this should go well for the stocking policy.  We look forward to 2008.
